Your Brass wool tip cleaner quickly and gently takes excess solder from the soldering iron tip and it also helps you to remove oxides present from longer use, but the activated brass wool pad itself will eventually become full of solder or be worn out from regular use.
Having a couple of spare pads in the toolbox costs very little… but will prevent future frustration!
