The Corris Valley Railway, which opened in 1859, was a horse-drawn railway running between the Morben Quays, through Corris and onto Aberllefenni. The line closed in 1948, reopening as a preserved line in 1966. Since preservation the line has become a tourist attraction with new rolling stock built and acquired. The original rolling stock on which this series of models is based is now found at the Talyllyn Railway.

The Talyllyn Railway runs between Tywyn and Nant Gwernol. This line opened in 1865 and was the first ever line to be preserved as a heritage railway by volunteers. The railway has another claim-to-fame; as well as being the first ever recognised narrow-gauge passenger carrying line in Britain, it was the inspiration for the fictional Skarloey Railway featured in the Reverend Awdry’s Thomas the Tank Engine books.
